Locks

How secure is your home?

To assess your security needs imagine you are a burglar attempting to gain entry to your home! How would you get in? Every home, of course, will be different. Plus look out for the Kitemark and 'Secured by Design' logo (a police prefered security product) on Chubb products such as the BS3621 Mortice lock.

Mortice locks

It is recommended that all entrance doors are fitted with a mortice lock. Mortice locks provide greater front, side and back door security by being physically embedded, or "morticed" into the door itself.

Window Locks

6 out of every 10 burglaries begin with entry through a window at the back of the house. Some of these burglaries are made by simply easing an already open window and many are made by breaking the glass and reaching in to release the window catch.

Such forced entry can be prevented by fitting effective window locks to your home, particularly on all downstairs windows and upstairs windows that are accessible from a flat roof, drainpipe or other vantage point.

Window locks secure the window to the frame by a simple bolt or clasp operation. This means that forced entry can only be made by breaking all the glass in the window and climbing through. The time it takes to do this, the noise it creates, and the prospect of injury is often enough to deter the opportunist burglar.

Window locks are relatively inexpensive, simple to fit, very easy to operate and are available for a wide range of different window applications.

Garage Locks

Taking adequate precautions to secure your home should also involve a close assessment of the protection needs for your outbuildings as well. Such outbuildings might include a detached garage, or a garden shed, a workshop or special storeroom of some kind. Often these outbuildings can contain items that would prove of some interest to casual intruders, such as lawnmowers or bicycles etc. Perhaps more importantly, however, they also often contain tools that could prove of use to the burglar. It is therefore important that such outbuildings are made secure. Our range of padlocks and padbars offers excellent protection for a wide range of outbuilding applications, from the simple garden shed through to industrial workshops and bonded warehouses requiring a high level of protection.
